Close, but no cigar

Hoping not to make your head spin, but the condo sale is pretty much off. The home inspection found a lot of needed fixes, which filled me with a sense of RELIEF.

Suddenly I realized that I gave up my 'must have, must not have' list and was feeling cognitive dissonance. Too much carpet, too many stairs, not enough privacy or fenced yard for the doggies, and too much BEIGE. What was I thinking? Well, the layout was glamorous and seduced me because of the open space, but naaaahhhh, it just won't do. The owners are willing to fix anything to which I say: Nevermind.
The search continues and we are seeing two more homes today. Sorry for the premature excitement.

  1. Sounds like it is a good idea to keep looking! I was wondering about the stairs.

  2. And you did not say fiddle about the yard..... and we all know your no yard thing turned into more gardening space than most of us have......

  3. I had wondered about the stairs too. Last thing we need as we get older is a level we can't use anymore. Good luck finding the perfect place.

  4. I find I'm easily seduced by the new and different and need to take a breath and look beyond the superficial with a critical eye. You had a lucky miss there, hope you find just what YOU need soon.

  5. Just as well. It caused you to slow down and consider that must have, must not have list. Now you can move forward more slowly and with deliberation and not settle. There is no hurry in this. Since you've made the decision, which is the toughest part, now you can take your time and find a place that will finally be right. Just remember, you can always paint walls and remove carpet. I too hate beige.

  10. Good luck! Having just sold one house here in NZ & about to sell another, we will be looking too - just hopefully it won't come to a '#soldwithnowheretogo' situation.

  11. You will find a better place! You do have a plan and that is half the battle!

  12. The reason the condo didn't work out is because there is a wonderful place just waiting to be found by you and Dave.

  13. Late to the party as usual. I love the idea of moving, but run screaming from the idea of us actually doing it.

A cursory glance at Zillow didn't really yield many hits for your must-haves. I didn't realize how hilly Chattanooga is, for one thing (surprisingly few single-story houses, both front and back).

I hope the perfect-in-every-way place is yours soon. Good luck!
