Yesterday my design wall fell down, on my head! I wasn't the least bit hurt, but I was shocked, and then annoyed. This has never happened since having a design wall anchored by Command hooks. There was hardly anything on it but a small quilt, some patterns and a drawing. But the sticky strips didn't hold and while I was out at a girlfriends' meeting, the thing started coming undone. I walked in and noticed the quilt was on the floor, bent over to retrieve it and the whole thing fell over on me. Hmmm.
For some time I had been thinking that the studio was feeling cluttered and that leads to messy habits. So this falling design wall instigated a rehash of the room. The former design wall has the phone landline outlet so I need something there to hold the phone, so I moved my serger there, facing the doorway, for good feng shui. (I know I'm nuts about this).
Then I could move my tables into a better configuration, which meant I now had the room for my sewing machine along the back wall, after moving the sofa.
The sofa has to stay, despite my desires to have it gone, as there is no where else to put. Yet. The dogs like it there, and you know they take precedence.
I found when I moved into my condo that Command hooks wouldn't stay on the builder basic wall paint either! Must be the flat paint they use or something. Sounds like it's time for you to paint that wall with some eggshell finish or something!
ReplyDeleteyabut where is the design wall now?
ReplyDeleteThis house we moved into 2 years ago has LOTS of big windows and when I took the smallest spare bedroom for my sewing room, I didn't have any wall space for a design wall. I'm getting use to it but would love to have more wall space for one. Since the room is small I'm always moving things around trying to get more functional space. sigh :(
ReplyDeleteIf the glue didn't dry out it's probably the paint. You might try repainting that one wall with an accent color in a good quality flat paint. not one of those that advertise you can clean crayons off and stuff. Then check to make sure your strips are new and not old or dried out.
ReplyDeleteI'm asking the same question as Laceflower - where is the design wall in your new arrangement? Now you have me sitting at the computer looking at my little room here and thinking about a better arrangement!! I love you beautifully white, clean and uncluttered room, must get my thinking cap on.
ReplyDeleteThe two panels are taken apart and standing in the little studio bathroom, behind the door that never gets closed. I don't design on it like quilters who piece, so I rarely use it for anything but photography and to get stuff off my table but still not put away. I'll test to see if I really miss it.
ReplyDeleteI use command hooks (not just strips) to hang my design wall. The hooks "hook" around the edge of the DW. At the top edge the hooks are upside down, on the sides they are sideways, and at the bottom edge they are right side up - hope this makes sense...
ReplyDeleteI have also found that the command strips would not stick to my wall, although the white command adhesive that comes with the hooks will stick to the same wall. The clear adhesive with hooks would not stick. Different recipes, I guess.
ReplyDeleteMelody what is the name of that table your sewing machine is on.
ReplyDeleteI need one and that looks perfect.

ReplyDeleteJerilyn, it was a gift and I don't know where it was purchased.
