Hey Everyone!
the garage door is fixed, the sink is fixed and now all we are waiting on is the stove to be fixed. In the meantime our smoke detector in the living room began beeping and it is 14 feet high, too high for any of our ladders to reach. It beeped all night, but we have hopes that the builder will send over a guy with a ladder and that will be fixed today too. I won't even mention the internet issues that have crept up. New router in the offing.
Other than that, I am very happy to say that we have been having daily rain, which is such a gift, and yards are getting greener everywhere in the area.
My diet is working again altho I was stalled at 17 pounds lost for a week. Finally lost another half pound which means that my jeans really fit again. Yay! Of course it is still too hot to wear them, but one can still revel in the comfort.
During this upheaval, if you can call it that, I have been indulging in afternoon reading which I had almost forgotten about.
Scott Turow's Innocent and Henning Mankell's The Fifth Woman. Having a sofa in my sewing room is so inviting and I admit to having a catnap daily, or should I say a dognap.
I am ready to decide about fabric to make this pattern:
I'm going with view A, with that collar band and roll up sleeves. Princess seams will add a little fit compared to the straighter shirts I have been making. This pattern is from 2010 and the sizing is going to be a bit of mystery until I sew it up. So I am not using my 'good' linen blends until I know for sure it will fit. If it does, I intend to make this dress:
Altho this isn't princess seamed, it is close enough for me to be inspired. We'll see how the shirt sewing goes.
Looking forward to a great day in the studio,
Lovest,
Love this pattern!! Shirtwaist dresses were very popular when I was in high school but I don't think they ever go out of style. I envy your sewing skills :)
ReplyDeleteGlad your glitches are being taken care of. At least everything happened all at once so, hopefully, that's the end of it.
I'm an avid reader and I'm always looking for suggestions. Thanks.
Love this pattern. I realize it's from 2010, but what is the pattern #?
ReplyDeleteMcCall's M6124
DeleteI know the garage door opener was an accident.
ReplyDeleteBut sink, stove and smoke detector? That seems like a lot to go wrong in a new house.
We did get hit by lightening which did the stove in, but the sink was badly plumbed so it was the builder's fault. And it was time for the battery in the smoke detector to be replaced, I guess, so they took care of that, just short of us going to the boobie hatch from the constant loud beeping. All is now fixed, but the stove, and I even replaced our router with a brand new one that really works great. All is back to normal and paid for by the builder. Sigh.
DeleteHmmmm.... is it time to invest in a Home Appliance Protection warranty? And I also admire your skills as a seamstress... reminds me of my Step-Mom, who was an absolute wonder at creating clothes that actually fit her! Love your choice of patterns too...
ReplyDeleteHenning Mankell is one of my all time favorite authors! If you like Nordic Noir, try Camilla Lackberg, Asa Larsson, and Arnauldur Indridason.
ReplyDeleteWe had a home warranty when we moved into our home 2 years ago (it was offered with the sale) but it was useless for everyday issues. It had to be something catastrophic in repair and then there were a LOT of "conditions" that had to apply. So, in our experience, a home warranty is a waste of money. Better to have a savings set aside for unforeseen issues.
ReplyDeleteWe also have smoke detectors that are WAY up in our 14 ft. ceilings!! Why do builders do that, anyway??? They are hard-wired and also have a battery. I can't tell you how many times ours has had that constant, high-pitched, beeping and it always occurs in the middle of the night! Someone told us that the fire department will come out and take care of it for us.
