Instagram via Laptop

Well, my little darlings, I have finally found out how to post to Instagram using my laptop instead of a cell phone. I do have a cell phone, a burner, which I don't ever use, and have put somewhere safe...I will find it eventually. But I digress.

Here's the thing. I realize that nowadays (doesn't that sound like an old lady is talking. As if!) nowadays people are not reading blogs as they once did. Everything and everyone is on their phone, and I wanted to get my work out there to more viewers. Listening to my arty pals (who rarely if ever even read this blog!!)  it was made clear I needed to be on Instagram.

But I am funny about my photos. I like to edit them and make them the best they can be, so I use my digital camera and Picasa 3 to do that, but then how to get them on Instagram which is made for directly posting from a cell phone. arrrggghh. Enter the ever ready to help Youtube.
Here's the url of the tutorial that solved my problem. Hurray. So of course I went on a posting frenzy and voila got oodles of practically instant views and comments and followers. Fabulous!

As some of you may know I have had a blog since 2004 and while that is a good thing, I think it is a dwindling platform. I can tell by my page views that only you worthy faithful few are seeing my posts. I can do better and reach more eyes if I use the most up to date platform that isn't icky facebook.

So that's it. In the sidebar at the top is my linking photo to Instagram. Just click and see stuff you've already seen here, but will see new stuff in the future, there first. The blog will stay here, but cease to be my main posting place. One must stay current.
Hoping you'll come along,

  1. I know what you mean! I like to read a few blogs in the morning, but there are few out there. Instagram seems the way to go and it is wonderful to see all the things you can find. I found you yesterday-good for you!

  3. I have been blogging for 11 years this month, so that means I am starting my 12th year. I much prefer blogs and apparently my followers do too. I have seen so many leave blogging for Facebook and Instagram. I caved and am on those too, but not that much as it is a major distraction! I do not have a cell phone and I too take photos with my Cannon and edit them too. I can use my Amazon Fire tablet to photograph and post to those other places, but my photos aren't as good on a tablet as I don't have the control I do with a camera and I prefer to edit too. I only have a few photos on Instagram because it was too much trouble for me to photograph everything with both a camera and my tablet in order to post photos. And all that double or triple posting takes too much time away from creating! So thank you Melody for the link. I haven't watched it yet, but I will and see if I want to add more photos to Instagram or not. It's such a shame blogging has become such a dinosaur! People don't want to read anything anymore. On those other social media platforms you cannot have a discussion or say how you created this or that. People don't seem to care as they just want to look at photos. I will continue to blog for as long as I enjoy it. I have a nice group of other blogging friends and although they are all on those other social media too, I would still rather create than spend time on so many platforms. And while I don't take the time to comment on your blog that often, I have been following you since you were on that house on acreage.

  4. I'm another who has a strong preference for blogs. I'm interested in what a person has to say, with photos illustrating that, or the basis for the thoughts/reflections. Your blog, Melody, is usually the first one I click on in my RSS feed, because I love hearing your voice, which is very distinctive. Your stories, comments, reflections on life as well as art--this is what makes your blog stand out, in addition to the beautiful things you create.

  5. Mel I went to the video tutorial and tried it on my laptop computer and even though I don't have a phone (I used my tablet before) it worked! The only thing I cannot seem to do is to type in a caption from my computer. So I only have photos, but that's more than I had before. So thanks for finding the tutorial, yay!

  6. What a shame. You have been a faithful companion to me on an almost daily basis for over 10 years and I will miss you very much. Your photos are terrific but it is your stories I value most, your zest and enthusiasm has inspired me so many times to try new things, to not give up, to be bolder and braver with my art. Thank you so much. I think you are right that blogging is out-of-fashion now. It’s a pity, it is a medium that allows a more thoughtful and considered approach. Everything has to be condensed to a photo now or a short video. I think we will lose the ability to read one day! Good luck on Instagram.

  8. I love reading how you handle life as a senior citizen artist.both ups and downs, and love how you weave your blog info and wisdom and humor into a good read, the photos are icing and process is most interesting to me. i agree with the many, many points blogging offers Curious folks like us, reading those above my post. i know zero about kitting however i feel that all the various interest you explore and show and Tell us about, all inform other creative processes. i will continue to blog and read yours and a few others that offer connection and have depth and kindness in them. For those who don't have time to listen or hear or (care enough not to cut you off in conversation), there are those platform to show what call look at me . i for one want to know the why, what, where, and How! Guess i will always be a reader, writer and curious one as long as i have my wits about me. thank you if you have read this far. be well, sonja

  10. I definitely prefer to read Blogs rather than just see photos on Instagram. I've always enjoyed seeing your garden endeavors in your various homes, and how you have overcome problems there. I was so envious of your big raised beds!

  11. Hi Melody. I read all your posts. I get them in email form so I rarely come here to the blog. I am wondering if others do the same. I am assuming that when I read the email it doesn't look like I have read your blog post. Is that correct? So your views may be much higher than you think. I love all your posts, but understand things change. The important thing is that you keep creating! I loved your foray into jewelry making! That was fun to see.
    Thanks for all your inspiration!

  12. Oh, darn. I much prefer blogs to Instagram, and you've been at the top of my blog bookmark ever since you were living in Indiana. I guess I'll have to get with it and start looking at Instagram on a much more regular basis.

  14. I've hopped over to see you on Instagram but I do hope you'll still write a blog post now and again. You were a tremendous help to me six years ago when I decided to begin blogging, and I'v loved all your stories, your updates on Dave, yourself and your house moves and so on. I'm on Instagram but haven't posted anything much but a lot of my favourite quilters seem to now be over there and not blogging any more. See you over at Instagram!

  15. Well I guess things are always changing but I've been happily reading your blogs for many, many years and have loved all that you've blogged on. Whenever things have been a bit dull I've gone over to read your blog and felt more inspired and in awe of your talent and energy! Being a quilter I can appreciate what you do. Do please write a bit so that we can keep up with your news about your gardening, creating, dawgs and Dave. Will try and check out this Instagram thing!
