Mojave

Mojave

Now that my sewing machine has been serviced and sews so beautifully, I did have to try it out on a quilt. This one was made a few weeks ago, and was waiting patiently to be quilted.

Lily: The Yellow Quilt

Lily: The Yellow Quilt
A mix of cotton prints and solids, including the big Marimekko floral from my old bedspread! 48x62", unquilted.
I have always wanted a yellow quilt, as they are kinda rare. But finding interesting yellow prints was difficult. So I pulled out what I had and as I did, I found the big yellow flowers and knew I was ready.

August 6th

August 6th, because I couldn't think of a better name. Machine pieced cottons, 48x63.5".

If  you can't tell if I am having fun, let me just shout it out. I AM HAVING FUN. I am using up previously started patchwork and scraps and whole slices of Kaffe Fassett fabrics and even a plaid. There is absolutely no angst involved in this work. And just yesterday I got my other sewing machine back from its tune-up and it runs like a brand new machine. I will be taking my other, other sewing machine (I have two Janome 6500Ps) in to get it serviced too and that will make me feel that I could keep this up for. ever.
Eventually, some of these will be quilted, but let's wait on that...I just wanna piece some more.

Hola Havana

Hola Havana
hand dyed cottons and prints, machine pieced, unquilted top, 53x64".

Using up my scraps turns out to be addictive. I love using these in a quilt top, and since they are already cut, things move along speedily. This went together in a morning, and finished just afternoon. That left me time to start another one later that evening, something I never do...sew at night!

Aquablocks

After my last quilt top, I had a bunch of pretty scraps leftover and decided to just piece some together for a few minutes.  Following up with some larger strips of blues and then bigger and chunkier parts and soon I had a big blue center. Whoa! This is so fun!

Aquablocks.
Hand dyed and commercial cottons, machine pieced, unquilted.
48x60"
I still have lots more scraps in that pile, so I am excited to try this again. I love the eensie weensie pieces against the wide expanse of larger areas.

Chummy snores on his cushion...Good doggie.

Cross Grid

Cross Grid
Hand dyed and commercial cottons, machine pieced, 46" square. Unquilted. In the stash were 16 large blocks which didn't seem to have any design to them, so I cut them into fours and arranged them on the wall. Not a design, yet. So adding a sashing strip with a centered cross shape helped. And then another layer of sashing with red crosses made it work for me. Funny how that one light yellow cross shape just commands attention.

Another UFO Top

Untitled top. Hand dyes, batiks and prints, machine pieced and unquilted. 48x60"
I found the blocks, most of them, in a box and thought, OK. I will finish these and add them to the pile of tops to be quilted, someday. At the moment, my fave quilting machine is in the shop getting a new thread cutter, so I am using my backup machine.
My goal for the summer is to finish up as many false starts as possible. For some reason, time has made the original ideas fade and now I can just go at it like it's a game. Racking up as many tops as I can!
