At last I have found the right pattern ( my own ) for a small scarf. Who knew? The original was made in 2009, but, um, I forgot about it. This one was modified in several ways, so it might as well serve as a brand new pattern. 
The back side has slipped stitches and garter ridges and color changes, and then the 'wings' are knit from that central diamond and are simplified with just changing color sets of ridges.
Then when the scarf is finished, I picked up stitches along the edge, did a couple of rows of garter then eyelets and finally a picot bind off. All the yarns I used were my recently dyed skeins, including the merino cashmere in pink and aqua which was heaven to knit. It weighs nothing on the shoulders and truly qualifies as a small scarflette. I really am happy with how flat it lies against the neck, without multiple folds. Just what I aimed for.
I wore the scarf from the previous post to church Wednesday and the woman sitting behind me commissioned one for herself to give as a gift, so I will begin today to make another, same yarn, same color, and hopefully fewer mistakes.

ReplyDeleteOh, Melody, this pink scarf is wonderful. I have often been bothered by those wrinkles at the nape of the neck so I agree with how you feel about them. :) I'd love to have the pattern for this scarf (remembering that I am not as adept a knitter as you:).

For my version, I played around with garter and slipped stitches, which are up to you to do. It is such a fast knit that I would make it first in a single yarn and just get the hang of it, and then go for whatever fancy stuff you like.
